Shamika is the current Preclinical Studies Manager at the SAHMRI Preclinical, Imaging and Research Laboratories (PIRL). Shamika is responsible for managing commercial projects, in addition to research projects. As part of the role, Shamika is experienced in the submission of applications to the Animal Ethics Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment and the Office for the Gene Technology Regulator. Shamika is also a member of the SAHMRI Radiation Safety Committee and holds a Type C licence (unsealed sources).
Shamika joined SAHMRI-PIRL in 2017 and prior to that had completed a BSc (Hons) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Reproductive Immunology) and a PhD from the University of South Australia (thesis entitled “The innate recognition of murine cytomegalovirus during the pre-implantation period and consequences for pregnancy”). Shamika has a particular interest in immunology, reproductive health and infectious diseases and has prior experience with managing projects investigating Huntington’s Disease, vaccine responses and device testing.
