Dr Jyoti Khadka is a research fellow in the Registry of Older South Australians (ROSA), South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. He is also a research fellow in the Institute for Choice, School of Business, University of South Australia. Dr Khadka was originally trained as an optometrist. He was awarded a PhD at Cardiff University in the UK, followed by a Post-doctoral fellowship at Flinders University in Australia.  His main areas of research interests and expertise are in healthy ageing, patient-reported outcomes and the application of modern psychometric methods, including item response theory (IRT) and Rasch analysis, to develop, validate and implement quality of life assessment instruments. His work has explored the application of Rasch analysis (a modern psychometric method) in developing and validating optimal new against existing legacy quality of life instruments. He has published over 45 peer reviewed research publications in patient-reported outcomes and application of Rasch analysis. His other research interests includes exploring ways to improve the quality of both preference and non-preference based instruments to measure and value health and quality of life outcomes in children and adults for health economics evaluations across the health, aged care and social care sectors.
