Dr Julien Bensalem completed his PhD specialised in Nutrition in 2014 at the University of Bordeaux, France, working on the effect of polyphenols on the age-related cognitive decline.

Following his PhD, he worked as Research Project Manager in a French company developing new nutritional plant extracts targeting specific health applications. At the same time, he was working as a postdoc in the Nutrition and Neurobiology laboratory in Bordeaux, France, allowing him to pursue his research on polyphenols and cognition.

Dr Bensalem joined the Hopwood Centre for Neurobiology at SAHMRI, Australia, in 2018 as a post-doctoral scientist working with Dr Tim Sargeant. He is currently investigating the effect of nutrition on the Alzheimer’s disease pathology and the link with autophagy.
